Present participle of sip. The act of taking a sip. Jackson found Sarah sitting in the drawing room sipping coffee. Her sister waited in the reception room, sipping tea and flipping through a magazine. When she returned to the house, Alex was sitting at the kitchen table, sipping coffee.

Sipping refers to the action of taking small, gentle mouthfuls of a beverage, rather than consuming it quickly or in large gulps.
